Quilt Festival 2010

The Third Bloggers Quilt Festival is on! Go and have a look at all the gorgeous quilts on display all over blogland.

Here is my entry and the story of it. I hope you will like it!

I made this little quilt to make me remember the Coogee Patchwork Group - as if I needed anything to remind me of them :-)

While living and working in Sydney, Australia between 1993-1996, I learnt how to quilt. First I attended an evening course at TAFE, and later the group decided we enjoyed sewing and each others company so much, that we would continue our weekly meetings after the course, too. So our teacher Edith found a place for us to meet in a senior citizens club at Coogee Oval.

I did not drive in Sydney before that time because driving on the 'wrong' side of the road looked just too daunting, but I had to drive to go to the weekly meetings. So I had a few practice runs with my husband and off I went to sew! This is just to show how important quilting was - and is - for me.

We made quilts for ourselves, for our friends and family, and for hospitals and retirement homes. We also had 2 exhibitions.

This quilt is a small friendship quilt. I sewed all the blocks by hand, and my friends each signed one of them. All the blocks are 5 inch blocks. It hangs in my bedroom and I have to smile every time I pass it... :-)

What a nice memory quilt about your sewing friends. It sounds like you have some very fond memories of your time spent quilting with your group. I certainly like the sampler style myself! It makes it extra nice that your friends names are added to the texture of the quilt. Thank you for sharing this treasure.
